چکیده

Recently, the HESS array has reported the detection of γ-ray emission above a few hundred GeV from eight new sources located close to the Galactic Plane. The source HESS J1834-087 is spatially coincident with SNR G23.3-0.3 (W41). Here we present MAGIC observations of this source, resulting in the detection of a differential γ-ray flux consistent with a power law, described as Universität Würzburg, D-97074 Würzburg, Germany Institut de F́ısica d’Altes Energies, Edifici Cn., E-08193 Bellaterra (Barcelona), Spain ETH Zurich, CH-8093 Switzerland Universidad Complutense, E-28040 Madrid, Spain Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, E-08193 Bellaterra, Spain Universität Dortmund, D-44227 Dortmund, Germany Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, D-80805 München, Germany Università di Padova and INFN, I-35131 Padova, Italy Università di Udine, and INFN Trieste, I-33100 Udine, Italy University of Lódź, PL-90236 Lodz, Poland Yerevan Physics Institute, AM-375036 Yerevan, Armenia Tuorla Observatory, FI-21500 Piikkiö, Finland Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, D-12489 Berlin, Germany University of California, Davis, CA-95616-8677, USA Università di Siena, and INFN Pisa, I-53100 Siena, Italy Università di Trieste, and INFN Trieste, I-34100 Trieste, Italy Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy, BG-1784 Sofia, Bulgaria Osservatorio Astronomico and INFN Trieste, I-34100 Trieste, Italy Università di Pisa, and INFN Pisa, I-56126 Pisa, Italy Institut de Ciències de l’Espai, E-08193 Bellaterra (Barcelona), Spain Universitat de Barcelona, E-08028 Barcelona, Spain Havard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Cambridge, MA-02138 deceased correspondence: H. Observation of Galactic Sources of Very High Energy Γ-rays with the Magic Telescope

During its first cycle of observations, the MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov) telescope has observed very high energy γ-rays from fife galactic objects: the Crab Nebula, the SNRs HESS J1813-178 and HESS J1834-087, the Galactic Center and the γ-ray binary LS I +61 303. After a short introduction to the MAGIC telescope and the data analysis procedure, the results of these fife...

Vla and Xmm - Newton Observations of Snr W 41 / Tev Γ - Ray Source Hess J 1834 - 087

The recently discovered extended TeV source HESS J1834-087 is associated with both a diffuse X-ray enhancement and a molecular cloud, projected at the center of an old radio supernova remnant G23.3-0.3 (SNR W41). New HI observations from the VLA Galactic Plane Survey (VGPS) show unambiguous structures associated with W41 in the radial velocity range of 53 to 63 km/s, so we obtain W41 distance o...

Swift/XRT follow-up observations of TeV sources of the HESS Inner Galaxy survey

In order to provide a firm identification of the newly discovered Galactic TeV sources, a search for counterparts in a broad band from soft X-ray to soft gamma-rays is crucial as data in these wavebands allow us to distinguish between different types of suggested models (for example leptonic versus hadronic) and, in turn, to disentangle their nature. In this paper, we report the results of a se...

Observation of selected SNRs with the MAGIC Cherenkov Telescope

Supernova Remnants (SNRs) are believed to be the acceleration sites of galactic cosmic rays. As such they are expected to produce Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-rays through hadronic and/or electromagnetic scenarios, hence they are natural targets for observations with ground-based Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs). Currently, VHE emission has been detected from several SNRs, makin...

Detection of Vhe Radiation from the Bl Lac Pg 1553+113 with the Magic Telescope

In 2005 and 2006, the MAGIC telescope has observed very high energy gamma-ray emission from the distant BL Lac object PG 1553+113. The overall significance of the signal is 8.8 σ for 18.8 h observation time. The light curve shows no significant flux variations on a daily time-scale, the flux level during 2005 was, however, significantly higher compared to 2006. The differential energy spectrum ...
